Former Biloxi Officer to Lead State GOP

JACKSON -- The Mississippi Republican Party is hiring a former Biloxi police officer as its new executive director.
Brandon Payne begins the party job Sept. 1.
The Gulf Coast native has been president of the Harrison County Republican Club. His most recent job was as a staff member for Republican U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, where he was responsible for 18 counties in south Mississippi.
The party has been without an executive director since Tim Saler left the job in late 2011.
Party chairman Joe Nosef announced Payne's hiring Monday and said the salary was still under discussion.
Nosef also said Mississippi is sending 40 delegates and 37 alternates to next week's Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla.
