4 County Weatherization Expo

While you are enjoying the beautiful fall weather, keep in mind that the winter months are just around the corner.

You may want to be looking now at ways of saving energy and money on your power bill.

4 County Electric Power Association representatives are offering some helpful tips to customers.

They've mounted a campaign that's making customers aware of the amount of energy they use in their homes each day.

"And anything folks can do from simple things like caulking leaks or changing out incandescent light bulbs for compact florescent light bulbs can save them money," said Jon Turner, 4 County Public Affairs & Marketing.

A Four County Weatherization Team is in the Mountpellier Community of Clay County.  A home there is being inspected for energy flaws.

The initiative is helping to save energy while freeing up much needed cash.

"And if you have got blown insulation in your house, which lot of us do, these days, that tends to compact over time and it probably, you could revisit that," added Turner.

A modern type roof seems to be in, keeping people cool in summer and warm in winter.

"It'll actually reflect off the bad rays coming in and also the metal roofs like that actually have a larger air gap up top, which they call it a ridge vent, and it will actually allow more attic heat to escape that way," said Ronnie Vernon, 4 County Marketing Specialist.

"Simple things like, again, if you've got a crack under your door or some weather stripping, a trip down to your hardware store to purchase some weather stripping and fix that gap," added Turner.

Are you looking for ways to save energy and save money on your power bill? If so, you'll want to make sure to attend the 4-County Energy Efficiency Expo.

The event which is free and open to the public will be held on Nov. 3 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the East Mississippi Community College in Mayhew and is designed to help people learn all about energy efficiency.

The Expo will be a chance for people in the area to find out what kind of energy efficiency services and products are available.

"Whether you want to find out what you should do to seal those gaps around your windows and doors or you want to find out about energy efficient appliances or you are looking at a larger project like installing new heating and cooling or adding on to or remodeling your home, you can find out about it at the Expo," said 4-County Director of Marketing Jon Turner.

The event will feature booths where local companies will demonstrate energy efficient items including insulation, building materials, windows and doors, appliances, lighting, heating and cooling units, solar energy for your home, energy efficient interior design and much more.
There will also be several speakers including Bob Brzuszek of Mississippi State University who will talk about energy efficient landscaping. Other topics include low income weatherization programs available for area residents and energy efficiency programs available through the Tennessee Valley Authority.

For more information contact 4-County at 662-245-0728 or online at www.4county.org.
The event is sponsored by 4-County, WCBI-TV and the Tennessee Valley Authority.
