Repairs to Close Some Campgrounds Temporarily
MOBILE, Ala. -- The US Army Corps of Engineers will be closing Blue Bluff Campground in Aberdeen and Pickensville Campground in Pickensville, Alabama from Nov. 1 to Feb. 28 to make upgrades to the campground electrical systems.
The closure was scheduled "to minimize inconvenience to campers and for the safety of the construction personnel working on the electrical system within the parks," said Park Manager Ralph Antonelli. Antonelli urged those seeking a campsite on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway during that time to consider these following areas for their visit; Cochrane Campground, located west of Aliceville, Ala. on Highway 17, DeWayne Hayes Campground, located north of Columbus, Miss. a short distance from Highways 50 and 373, or Town Creek Campground, located North West of Columbus, Miss. a short distance from Highway 50 West.
The camprounds that will remain open this winter "Cochrane, DeWayne Hayes, and Town Creek Campground have concrete pads with water and electrical hook-ups," said Antonelli, "and the camp sites are available for camping throughout the winter months on a first come-first serve basis."
