Ackerman Water Plant
ACKERMAN, Miss.(WCBI)—A new water treatment plant in Ackerman has been flowing for the last six months.
It’s been in the works for some time and was finished this past May. Grants and a loan helped pay for the facility.
Out with the old and in with the new. That was the reason behind the new water treatment plant.
“I guess it all started a couple of years ago. We applied for grants and had the engineering done, and we got it started last year, and it’s complete,”Ackerman Mayor Dick Cain.
When the new one point one million facility opened it meant the city no longer relied on one in use for 40 to 50 years.
“We’re real proud of our water system, and we think it’s always been good, but the new system, of course, is more energy efficient. It doesn’t take as much power to operate it, and at the same time, when we’re doing this, we got a new scalar system, which we can monitor on a computer, and our director has a plan on his smart phone,” said Ackerman Resident Kasy Young.
The plant has a new storage tank and pumps, but the water and its bills didn’t change.
“I think that that’s an investment in our community and without it, our community wouldn’t exist as it is, and people, I mean you would eventually have to fix it, so to be forward looking and go ahead and invest now before that is an issue, I think is very smart of our city,”said Cain.
The plant isn’t the only improvement the city has made to stay active, other investments have played out too.
“We’re redone all of our sewer lines. We had them all camered and cleaned and repaired where necessary throughout the whole city, so that’s a plus and our lagoon system, our sewage treatment plant is new. It’s only about three years old, so we’re trying to take care of the town,”said Cain.
